The client’s internal bond reference database—used for corporate and sovereign instruments—was accessible only via a web interface that displayed one bond at a time.

Analysts had to manually search, extract, and copy details for each security into Excel to build analysis packs, credit memos, or reporting decks.

This fragmented, repetitive process consumed hours daily, introduced data consistency risks, and limited team scalability.

Solution Delivered

We developed a powerful Excel Add-In that integrates with the bank’s internal bond database via REST API and XML protocols.

Key features included:

  • Multi-bond query functionality that allows users to paste in a list of ISINs or tickers and retrieve all relevant data at once
  • Customisable field selectors so each analyst can create and save “favorite views” from over 100 bond attributes, including coupon, maturity, yield, call schedule, and issuer data
  • Automatic import, cleansing, and formatting of returned data into structured Excel tables ready for modelling, valuation, or reporting
  • Built-in retry logic, response validation, and error handling to ensure robustness across API variations

  • Reduced analyst effort from 2–3 hours per session to under 5 minutes for large bond sets
  • Enabled scalable, analyst-defined data views—supporting multiple teams and reporting needs
